While thankfully C19 is apparently at a low level on the mainland compared to Influenza, mycoplasma and RSV, but numbers are rising driven by JN.1

But China CDC appears to be minimising the risk.

Since JN.1 is growing fast the whole world over (now dominant in USA), much more caution is needed. Especially as the latest pre print shows the old boosters no longer protect against hospitalisation!

The news is that American hospitals are being overrun!

China needs the new XBB variant vaccines for all, not just in certain cities.

Mid December China Pandemic Update

Yes some JN.1 has been recorded since November and the expert Zhong Nanshan expects there to be a new wave in the new year.

I understand that, so far, there doesn’t appear to be any increase in severity of C19. But the big immune evasive nature of JN.1 means that far more will get infected with commensurate knock on effects.

Some cities here are now issuing a new XBB variant vaccine but this hasn’t got to Changsha yet.

No time to let up on NPIs, even though most govts have abandoned any pretence at protecting their citizens. The UKCovidInquiry has clearly exposed the catastrophic Tory govt response to the pandemic.
